Jan 5, conflict resolution webinar
Define conflict.
A serious disagreement or argument
Is conflict always bad? Why or why not?
Conflict is not always bad, it keeps you honest, allows you to go deep, helps define your priorities, and it can make you happier.
Describe the 5 different types of conflict.
Systemic, inter group, intra group, interpersonal, intrapersonal
List the 6 stages of conflict escalation
Problem solving, personal antagonism, issue multiplication, triangulation, polarization/hostility, change in structure.
List the 4 steps of the intention check
Describe the action, ask about their intention, listen, describe the effect (if necessary)
DESCRIBE the 3 approaches of conflict resolution
Drop it, deal with it later, or deal with it now.
What is the platinum rule?
Do unto others as you would have done unto them.
What are the two reasons of why you should paraphrase?
-It helps the one affected by conflict feel that they are being listened to and understood.
-it helps the listener confirm that they understand the other person and are not making false assumptions about the other person message.
What are the ABCD of the resolution process?
-Analyze the conflict
-Build understanding
-Create solutions
-Define details
A co-worker of yours keeps taking your writing utensils off your desk, which you need to complete any and all work assigned to you. At first, you just took new supplies from the supply room to replace the ones that were taken, because you are unsure if it was by accident or on purpose, and you aren’t really sure which co-worker is the culprit. However, it seems like you are needing to restock your supplies 2-3 times a week and not only is it becoming a tedious task, but your boss has asked to speak with you. Your boss suggests you take better care of office supplies and reminds you of the rule that no office supplies should be going home. You try to explain that your supplies have been disappearing, but with no sure person to blame, your story falls short of a good excuse. How would you resolve this conflict? Think of ABCD of the resolution process.
I would ask if anyone has seen someone stealing office supplies off my desk or if they’ve seen someone going into my office a lot, if they have then I would confront him and ask him why he is doing that.

-I make sure im thinking safely at work especially when using power tools and going under semis, I always make sure to use jack stands.
I didn't have to overcome a fear this week, there was nothing to have a fear about.
If I were to have to train a new employee I would tell them the safety rules of the shop first. which are basically pay attention and don't be doing any horse play. especially around air tools, the hydraulic lifts and presses and the tire changing machines. I would then give them training on each power tool in the shop and then get me to show me how to use them. I would tell them the work hours are from 8 until 5 with a 1 hour lunch from 12 to 1. I would then tell them they need to check in everyday as well as after every job they do. also I would let them know that we don't get paid by the hour but we get paid by the job, so if we work fast enough we get paid double and if we have no jobs to do we still get paid. the last thing id tell them is if they have any questions about a vehicle or anything ask the master techs and if their to busy then come and ask me or the other employers, but always check with the master techs.

I know a lot of people who hate their jobs and only do it for the money which would not be a good life to have because you would be dreading every single day of work which will show in your success at work.
